About this Event
65 Gorgas Dr., Brownsville, Texas 78520
The Center for Latin American Arts (CLAA) invites you to attend the “Tag Filling Activity Lunch for the exhibition Hostile Terrain 94 (HT94)” on Thursday, September 23, 2021, at 1:00 P.M.- 2:00 P.M., at the Rusteberg Gallery Brownsville Campus. This event is organized by Dr. Sarah Rowe with the College of Liberal Arts. The exhibition was designed by Undocumented Migration Project (UMP), a non-profit research-art-education-media collective, directed by anthropologist Jason De León. The exhibition is composed of over 3,500 handwritten toe tags that represent migrants who have died trying to cross the Sonoran Desert of Arizona between the mid-1990s and 2019. These tags are geolocated on a wall map of the desert showing the exact locations where remains were found. This installation will simultaneously take place at many national and global institutions, including UTRGV CLAA on view starting Thursday, September 23, 2021. Read more about Hostile Terrain 94 here.
