CME FACULTY DEVELOPMENT SERIES: At the conclusion of this event, learners who submit completed evaluations will receive AMA PRA Category 1 Credit.
SERIES OBJECTIVE: Provide medical faculty with essential training in research practices and ethical standards.
SERIES GOAL: Empower faculty with practical tools and knowledge to enhance their research initiatives, contribute responsibly to academic literature, and support the UTRGV SOM's mission of advancing healthcare through scholarship.

CME CREDIT: 1 hour per completed session, including post event survey submission
JANUARY 2025:
- 1/7 Introduction to Academic Research - This session offers an overview of the research lifecycle in academic medicine, covering how research impacts healthcare, patient care, and policy. Faculty will gain a foundational understanding of research principles and their application within medical fields.
FEBRUARY 2025
- 2/4 Penning With Integrity: Navigating Authorship & Ethical Publishing - Ethical authorship and transparent publishing are crucial to academic integrity. This session covers authorship criteria, roles, and responsibilities in collaborative research, following ICMJE guidelines. Faculty will learn how to manage authorship order and avoid conflicts, ensuring ethical publication practices.
- 2/11 Institutional Review Board (IRB) Essentials - Understanding IRB processes are vital for protecting research participants and maintaining ethical standards. This session will guide faculty through submission requirements and ethical considerations when working with human subjects.
- 2/18 Informed Consent in Medical Research - Informed consent is fundamental to ethical research. This session will focus on practical aspects of obtaining consent, ensuring participant comprehension, and addressing common challenges in the consent process.
MARCH 2025
- 3/4 Grant Writing for Medical Researchers - Successful grant writing is a critical skill for securing research funding. This session offers strategies for writing compelling proposals, budgeting, and managing grants, equipping faculty to pursue funding opportunities effectively.
- 3/18 Data Management & Analysis in Research - Proper data management ensures accuracy and integrity in research. Faculty will learn best practices for data handling, privacy, and reproducibility, along with tools for effective data management.
