EVENT SPONSORED BY THE UTRGV SCHOOL OF MEDICINE

This conference is an opportunity for medical and mental health providers, community health workers, school personnel, healthcare agencies and community residents to exchange ideas, explore approaches, and enhance their knowledge about the importance of the delivery of prevention and treatment services within a cultural, holistic and interdisciplinary framework.

It will also include efforts being made by the UTRGV School of Medicine to create awareness about substance use, especially heroin addiction, and HIV/AIDS problems affecting our community and the prevention efforts that are being made to educate young adults both on campus and in the community. Important as well is the need to create awareness about the special needs of special populations, such as homeless children and families, veterans and the LGBT community. The conference will also address the issue of stigma often associated with seeking treatment for mental health disorders and HIV/AIDS infection.

To request special accommodations, contact the Office of Continuing Education at (956) 665-2071 or email continuinged@utrgv.edu.
