SOM Perspectives of Career Advising for First, Second, Third and Fourth Year Medical Students with Dr. Gregory Smith

Speaker: Gregory S. Smith, Ph.D., Assistant Dean

Gregory S. Smith, Ph.D., assistant dean for student affairs at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine, received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences in Houston, Texas and then completed a post-doctoral fellowship in pathology at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston. He joined the faculty at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine in 1995.

Dr. Smith is an active teacher in the curriculum and holds a variety of administrative positions in the School of Medicine including director of first- and second-year medical student electives, director of medical student career advising and director of Phase I curriculum.

He was named the assistant dean for student affairs in 2013. He is interested in surgical technologies, mentoring medical students and student career development.

Workshop Objectives:

  • Overview of purposeful use of CiM program.
  • Overview of VSA and Frieda.
  • Case scenarios to address specific student career issues and concerns.
