The Center for Latin American Arts announces the opening of the exhibition “Noreste,” Wednesday, Sept. 16, in conjunction with the 16 de Septiembre celebrations of Mexican Independence. Please visit our website to see this virtual exhibition at www.utrvg.edu/claa.
"Noreste" presents the paintings and drawings of artists working on both sides of the border of the Rio Grande: Mario Jiménez Díaz (from Matamoros, México), César A. Martínez (originally from Laredo, Texas and lives in San Antonio), and Rigoberto González (originally from Reynosa and lives in the Rio Grande Valley).
These works visualize the artists' perspectives on identity in Texas and Northern Mexico, commercialization of culture, immigration, and social activism and how this has transformed contemporary art in their lifetimes.
The CLAA is honored to feature artists César A. Martínez, Mario Jiménez Díaz, and our very own UTRGV faculty member Rigoberto González!
Please stay informed on the CLAA website for more news about a live Zoom event with the artists on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2020.
