[Edinburg, Texas] – The UTRGV Student Union is excited to host the second annual "Vaquero Boots & BBQ" as one of our featured events during the upcoming UTRGV Homecoming celebration. Anahi Esquivel, Program Coordinator says, “Last year’s event brought out the Vaquero spirit and provided an unforgettable experience for the UTRGV community. We plan to scale up the event featuring live music from RED: A Taylor Swift Tribute Band”.  Students are encouraged to wear their favorite pair of boots and tuck in your jeans to show them off. There will be free food and activities for UTRGV students while supplies last.

Date: Wednesday, February 12, 2025 

Time: 6 PM - 10 PM 

Venue: Student Union EQUAD; (Rain Backup – Indoors Student Union ESTUN) 

Country Line Dancing Instructors will spotlight the latest dances, accompanied by the renowned Eros Garcia Country Band delivering foot-tapping tunes. Don't miss the Vaquero Boots Showcase featuring a boots pageant. Engage in interactive country-themed games.  Student Organizations will be offering a variety of tasty treats to raise funds during the event. Students can enjoy complimentary food and UTRGV swag with their V1 Card while supplies last.

Q: Who can attend the Vaquero Boots & BBQ event? 
A: The event is a Homecoming celebration specifically designed for UTRGV students. Activities, games, and rides are exclusively accessible to currently enrolled UTRGV students who register at the event.  

 

Q: Can students bring a guest? 
A: Yes, students may bring a guest. However, guests will not be able to participate in any of the activities, games, concert or rides. 

 

Q: Is the concert open to the public? 
A: No, the concert is exclusive to UTRGV students and is not open to the public. 

 

Q: Do I need to register to participate in the activities? 
A: Yes, currently enrolled UTRGV students must register at the event to access the activities, games, and rides. Your UTRGV Student ID is required to register. 

 

Q: What do I need to bring to the event? 
A: Students should bring their V1 ID Card to verify enrollment and complete registration at the event. 

 

Q: Can faculty and staff attend the event? 
A: The event is primarily designed for UTRGV students, but faculty and staff are welcome to attend. However, the activities and concerts are specifically for students. 

 

Q: What if I’m not a UTRGV student but want to attend? 
A: Unfortunately, the event is not open to the public, and activities are reserved for currently enrolled UTRGV students. 

 

Q: Is there a dress code for the event? 
A: While there is no formal dress code, students are encouraged to embrace the country-western theme by wearing their favorite boots and country-inspired attire. 

 

Q: Will there be food at the event? 
A: Yes, free Aguas Frescas and Fajita Tacos will be available while supplies last. Additionally, certain student organizations will be onsite selling food items as part of their fundraising efforts. 

 

Q: What happens if it rains? 
A: In case of rain, the event will move indoors to the Student Union ESTUN.
